But it didn't come from nowhere — it grew out of a real, everyday problem in structural engineering practice, and it's built with the same rigor as any engineering deliverable. Every engagement draws on deep, firsthand knowledge of nuclear plant design basis requirements.

Today, through UzBur Consulting Inc., I provide structural engineering consulting to a prestigious nuclear engineering firm, supporting major nuclear clients in Ontario, Canada.
Most of my career has centered on CANDU nuclear structures — work where a calculation isn't finished when the math checks out. It's finished when it's documented, traceable, and ready for a review process that assumes nothing. For years that meant running the analysis in one tool (such as Mathcad, Excel, etc.) and writing it up in another (such as MS Word): copying numbers into a report, reformatting tables by hand, clicking "Update Table" on the table of contents and list of figures after every change and still catching mismatches it missed, chasing reference numbers by hand, and re-checking everything every time a single input changed. I'd already started writing my own VBA scripts in Excel just to claw back the hours that process was costing me.
CalcAuthor is the tool I actually wanted: one document where the calculation and the report are the same thing, where changing a variable updates everything that depends on it, where the table of contents, list of figures, list of tables, and references update themselves with no "Update Table" button to remember, and where the output is already formatted the way a reviewer expects — not a worksheet you export and clean up afterward. I'm building it through UzBur Tech Solutions, a division of UzBur Consulting Inc., alongside my ongoing structural engineering consulting work.
